About the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer – Houston Tx.
On Easter Sunday in 1920, we, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, celebrated our first communion service. Our founders intended us to be a community church, serving the people of Houston’s East End each day of the week. During the 1960s, our parish experienced a charismatic renewal that transformed our style of worship and the manner of our life together. We increased in size and influence over the next few decades, especially through the music written, performed, and recorded by members of the Redeemer Choir and The Fisherfolk. In February of 2011, due to the prohibitive cost of repairing our outdated buildings and physical plant, we moved two miles east of our location on Dallas St. And through the gracious hospitality of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, we began sharing their building space both for worship and the ministries we support. We are led by our pastor, the Rev. Israel Ahimbisibwe, Ph.D.
We celebrate communion together each Sunday at 4:00pm at 5700 Lawndale St. at the corner of Jocelyn and Lawndale, just northwest of the Villa de Matel. Please come and join us in our life together, seeking to love God and our neighbor.
