Lifestory Writing Group
Since 2007, there have been lifestory classes at Redeemer with 8 classes each session meeting twice a month. Class size is 12-14 writers of any adult age range. Each person reads the written true story from their own life which is no longer than 5 minutes long when read aloud.
Other writers then provide the reader a comment about one thing they liked or were touched by from the writing of the story. Writing skills and community flourish as we hear twelve stories to inspire, surprise, and bless us. Each writer signs a form of confidentiality for the class and is provided with a page of suggestions for further stories at the close of each class. Two frequent comments are,” I didn’t see the hand of God until I wrote this down” and “This has changed my life.” There is registration and a small fee toward church costs.
We use, with permission, the work of Dr. Michelle Sierpina, Director of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UTMB Galveston, where Alison Barker who facilitates this group, was trained and uses this material.
